GDC Caring Awards First College Scholarships to Two San Antonio Area Students
Scholarship Program established to honor the legacy of Glenn Espino
SAN ANTONIO — GDC Caring, the philanthropic arm of GDC Marketing & Ideation, has awarded its first college scholarships to two deserving students. Emily Rappmund, a senior at Byron P. Steele High School in Schertz, Texas and Gabriela Rodriguez, a senior at Winston Churchill High School in San Antonio, are the 2021 recipients of the Glenn Espino Scholarship. The scholarship has been established to honor the legacy of Glenn Espino, the husband of long-time GDC employee Lannette Espino. Glenn, who passed away in 2019, was a passionate advocate of education and the son of two educators. As the first recipients, Rappmund and Rodriguez will receive individual scholarships totaling $5,000.
“Glenn was a great man who inspired us all with his humility, strength and kindness,” said Beth Wammack, GDC Marketing & Ideation Chief Executive Officer. “His legacy of helping others will live on through this scholarship named in his honor by giving students the ability to pursue their higher education goals.”
Participating in the Ready, Set, Teach internship program in the Schertz-Cibolo- Universal City School District, Rappmund is already on her way toward a future career in the classroom. Through the program, Rappmund has been paired with teachers at an elementary school in Schertz and has had the opportunity to teach classes in-person and virtually. Rappmund plans to attend Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas in fall 2021, majoring in General Education: Core Subjects, Early Childhood Education through 6th Grade.
Drawn to a career in the medical field by the desire to help others, Rodriguez began exploring different options before identifying psychology as where she plans to apply her talents. The experience of mentoring a younger student solidified her decision to explore this field in greater depth. Rodriguez plans to attend Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas in fall 2021 and pursue a degree in Business with a minor in Psychology.
The Glenn Espino Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who are planning to attend college, and who are the children or grandchildren of current or former GDC Marketing & Ideation employees.
